3 Ways to Volunteer

Our volunteers are the heart of Senior Care Services of Greater Princeton

We are always looking for help! SCSGP pairs people from all walks of life with senior citizens in our area for transportation to health and medical-related appointments, food shopping, and/or friendly visits.

Our volunteers are a diverse group: many work full-time; others are college students and professors; some are parents with young children; others are grandparents and retirees. All are united by the passion to help their neighbors age gracefully in the comfort of their own homes. Without these generous individuals, Senior Care Services would not be able to fulfill its vital mission.

Volunteer opportunities are VERY flexible – some volunteers serve once a week, others once a month. You volunteer based on YOUR schedule. Volunteers must be 18 or older and are required to attend a one-hour training session in our office in Princeton at a convenient time for the volunteer. In addition, they must have a valid driver’s license, up-to-date auto insurance and pass a background check.

1

Transportation

Volunteers provide the elderly with transportation in their own cars to health and medical-related appointments within a ten-mile radius of Princeton. Clients must be ambulatory and able to get in and out of the car with minimal assistance, although canes and walkers are permitted. A detailed schedule for the rides needed is sent out on a weekly basis by email. Signup is quick and easy directly in the email. Volunteers choose the ride(s) that fit their own schedule!

2

Food Shopping

Volunteers provide food shopping services for the elderly who live within a ten-mile radius of Princeton. Typically, a volunteer shops for a client, but if a client wishes to go to the supermarket, some volunteers perform this service. Payment is made to the volunteer in cash or by a check made out to the supermarket. Credit/debit cards are not permitted.

3

Friendly Visits

One of the greatest challenges the home-bound elderly face is coping with loneliness. Senior Care Services of Greater Princeton pairs a volunteer with a home-bound client. The volunteer contacts the client and schedules a home visit at a mutually agreeable time. Our volunteers often report that, in addition to providing companionship to an elderly person, the visit is a truly special and rewarding experience for them as well.

“I am so glad I made that phone call to Senior Care Services many years ago. My client, Sue, has so enriched my life.”
